ARCHITECTURAL LIGHTING
How are Proper Architectural Lighting Effects Achieved?
Architectural lighting is a specific application to accent an entire face of a building or structure or at very least to use light to highlight the prominent features of a building or structure. Prominent features of this type of lighting generally focus on columns, gables, dormer windows, chimneys, turrets, or cupolas, but can also be as simple as accenting the corners of a building to give the viewer a nighttime sense of the building’s dimensions. Architectural lighting can also be used to reveal a building’s specific material of brick, stone, stucco, wood, steel or glass.
Architectural lighting is achieved by careful placement of the appropriate LED fixtures on or near the building or structure to allow for maximum coverage and minimum glare. As in other lighting applications, proper color temperature, light intensity and beam angle are critical in achieving a perfectly balanced composition.
Architectural lighting can also be used to make a building or structure stand out from its surrounding landscape or urban environment. This can be achieved through the use of color-changing LED fixtures or special application products that “carve out” a building’s presence within a defined space.
